Dr. Weismann, born and raised in Fredericton, first became interested in dentistry after getting braces as a teenager. She first completed her undergraduate degree at the University of New Brunswick, having graduated First Class Honours with a degree in Biology-Chemistry in 2016. She then made the move to Halifax, where she attended Dalhousie University and graduated in the spring of 2020 with her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree.

An admirer of the visual arts and graphic design, Dr. Weismann loves that dentistry is a unique profession that combines health sciences and hands-on skills to help restore a patient’s smile and overall oral health. She is happy to see patients of all ages and always strives to provide a positive experience to everyone under her care.

Since returning to her hometown, Dr. Weismann has enjoyed catching up with family and friends, spending time with her dog, Lulu, and completing DIY renovation projects on her home.

Root canal treatment is how we save a tooth from becoming infected and possibly being lost. Learn more about this misunderstood but necessary procedure.

How does root canal treatment work?

When the enamel of a tooth is damaged, bacteria can get into the inner part of the tooth, called the pulp. The pulp is full of nerves and blood vessels, and it’s vulnerable to infection. To stop the infection and save the tooth, we use a root canal. The treatment is simple. We drill a tiny hole in the tooth, remove the pulp and clean the tooth to remove any bacteria, then seal the tooth and put a crown over it. After the root canal treatment the tooth will be safe from infection.

Aren’t root canals painful?

Although they have a reputation of being painful, modern anesthetic and treatments have made root canal treatment no more painful than getting a tooth filled. Some patients find that the tooth and surrounding area is sensitive for a few days after treatment, but this soon passes.

Fillings

Crowns

Inlays and onlays are similar to fillings but they’re made in a dental lab and cemented into your tooth. We use them if a tooth needs to be restored but it doesn’t need a crown. Onlays are special inlays that restore the biting parts of the tooth.

Bridges

A bridge is one of your options if you need a replacement tooth. The bridge is an artificial tooth that is held in place by attachments to the teeth on either side of the gap left by the missing tooth. (this is where they get their name) Bridges not only restore your smile, but they keep your teeth from drifting out of position.
